2025 Dodge Durango SRT
2024 Maserati Levante

Safety

The Dodge Durango SRT has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Levante doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the Durango SRT and the Levante have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available crash mitigating brakes and lane departure warning systems.

The Dodge Durango SRT weighs 505 to 581 pounds more than the Maserati Levante. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

Dodge’s powertrain warranty covers the Durango SRT 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Maserati covers the Levante. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Levante ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Durango SRT’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the Levante’s (5/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

There are over 22 times as many Dodge dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Durango SRT’s warranty.

Reliability

The Dodge Durango SRT’s engine uses a cast iron block for durability, while the Levante’s engines use an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

Engine

The Durango SRT’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 365 more horsepower (710 vs. 345) and 276 lbs.-ft. more torque (645 vs. 369) than the Levante GT’s standard 3.0 turbo V6. The Durango SRT’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 286 more horsepower (710 vs. 424) and 217 lbs.-ft. more torque (645 vs. 428) than the Levante Modena’s standard 3.0 turbo V6. The Durango SRT’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 160 more horsepower (710 vs. 550) and 107 lbs.-ft. more torque (645 vs. 538) than the Levante Modena S’ standard 3.8 turbo V8. The Durango SRT’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 130 more horsepower (710 vs. 580) and 107 lbs.-ft. more torque (645 vs. 538) than the Levante Trofeo’s standard 3.8 turbo V8.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the Durango SRT can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Levante doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Durango SRT’s wheelbase is 1.5 inches longer than on the Levante (119.8 inches vs. 118.3 inches).

The Durango SRT Hellcat handles at .90 G’s, while the Levante GT pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Durango SRT Hellcat executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.7 seconds quicker than the Levante GT (25 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 26.7 seconds @ .69 average G’s).

Chassis

The Durango SRT uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Levante doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Durango SRT has 33.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Levante (141.4 vs. 108).

Ergonomics

The Durango SRT’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Levante’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

The Durango SRT’s LED headlights produce a white, bright light using less electricity than the Levante’s standard xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. HID headlights can be slow to reach full brightness or power cycle, causing issues when flashing them to signal other vehicles; LED headlights light instantly. LED lights also last about three to four times as long.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Dodge Durango SRT offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the front center console. The Levante doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The Durango SRT has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Levante doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Recommendations

The Dodge Durango outsold the Maserati Levante by over 67 to one during 2024.
