2025 Toyota Mirai

Safety

Both the 500e and the Mirai have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available blind spot warning systems, front parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The 500e comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Mirai’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the 500e gets better mileage than the Mirai:

Tires and Wheels

The 500e’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Mirai’s standard 55 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the 500e’s turning circle is 7 feet tighter than the Mirai’s (31.5 feet vs. 38.5 feet).

Chassis

The Fiat 500e may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1300 pounds less than the Toyota Mirai.

The 500e is 4 feet, 4.8 inches shorter than the Mirai, making the 500e easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 500e is 8.2 inches narrower than the Mirai, making the 500e easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Cargo Capacity

The 500e’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Mirai doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

Ergonomics

The 500e’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Mirai XLE’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the 500e has a standard rear wiper. The Mirai doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Recommendations

The Fiat 500 outsold the Toyota Mirai by over two to one during 2024.
